Oxidative stress refers to the imbalance of the production and elimination of oxygen free radicals in the body or cells, which leads to the accumulation of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) and Reactive Nitrogen Species (RNS) in vivo or cells, resulting in oxidative damage. A large number of studies have shown that oxidative stress causes the occurrence and development of a variety of diseases (see the chart below).
There are two kinds of antioxidant system, one is enzyme antioxidant system, including superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and so on. The other is non-enzymatic antioxidant system, including ergothioneine, vitamin C, vitamin E, glutathione, melatonin, α-lipoic acid, carotenoid, trace element copper, zinc, selenium (Se) and so on.
Elabscience® has developed a series of metabolism assays for ROS, RNS, Glutathione GSH and Anti-oxidation, covering a wide range of indicators related to oxidative stress to meet your research needs.
